As part of NBC Sports' coverage of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, I was invited to design and animate a tribute to Josephine Baker. One of the best parts of my work is being able to tell incredible stories, and Josephine's is one of the greatest!
Josephine Baker was a trailblazing African American performer, civil rights activist, and spy during World War II, whose influence spanned both entertainment and social justice. Born in 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri, she rose to fame in the 1920s as a dancer in Paris, becoming an icon of the Jazz Age. Known for her flamboyant and daring performances—most famously her "banana skirt" dance—she shattered racial barriers in Europe, where she found greater acceptance than in the segregated United States. Baker's charisma and talent made her one of the highest-paid entertainers of her time, cementing her status as a global star.
The new sound design was reworked for the director's cut and was created by Ronroco Audio.
